After the Falklands War, Bentley continued to serve in the British Army, deploying on operations to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, and Iraq. He was awarded the Military Cross for his actions in Iraq, where he saved the lives of several soldiers under heavy fire.

Bentley retired from the British Army in 2002, but he continues to work in the field of conflict resolution. He is a founding member of the charity Combat Stress, which provides support to veterans suffering from mental health problems. He is also a regular speaker on the dangers of war and the importance of peace.
