Alexander shows how the war on drugs, the criminalization of poverty, and the expansion of the prison industrial complex have created a new form of racial segregation and inequality. She argues that mass incarceration is not simply a problem of crime, but a tool of racial control that is used to maintain white supremacy.

The New Jim Crow is a powerful indictment of the American criminal justice system, and a call to action for a new movement to end the New Jim Crow. Alexander offers a blueprint for a new movement that can build on the successes of the civil rights movement and other social justice movements to create a more just and equitable society.

The book is divided into three parts. In the first part, Alexander provides a historical overview of the criminal justice system in the United States, and shows how it has been used to oppress Black people. In the second part, she examines the war on drugs, the criminalization of poverty, and the expansion of the prison industrial complex, and argues that these policies have created a new system of racial apartheid.

In the third part, Alexander offers a blueprint for a new movement to end the New Jim Crow. She argues that we need to challenge the racist assumptions that underlie the criminal justice system, and to create new policies that promote racial justice and equity. She also calls for a new movement that is inclusive of all people who are affected by mass incarceration, regardless of their race, gender, or class.

The New Jim Crow is a must-read for anyone who cares about racial justice. It is a powerful indictment of the American criminal justice system, and a call to action for a new movement to end the New Jim Crow.
