Bill Reilly's career in public service and environmental advocacy has spanned more than four decades. From his early days as an environmental lawyer to his time as the first administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),Reilly has been a tireless champion for protecting the environment and public health.

Reilly was born in 1940 in New York City. He graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School, and then worked as an environmental lawyer for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). In 1981, he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to be the first administrator of the EPA.

As EPA administrator, Reilly oversaw the implementation of some of the most important environmental laws in the nation's history, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Superfund law. He also worked to improve international cooperation on environmental issues, and helped to establish the Montreal Protocol, which phased out the use of ozone-depleting chemicals.

After leaving the EPA in 1989, Reilly continued to work on environmental issues. He served as president of the World Wildlife Fund and the Conservation Foundation, and was a member of the President's Council on Sustainable Development. He is currently a professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

Reilly's book, All About Bill Reilly, tells the story of his life and work. It is a fascinating and inspiring account of one man's lifelong commitment to protecting the environment and public health.

Reilly's Early Life and Education

Bill Reilly was born in New York City in 1940. His father was a lawyer, and his mother was a social worker. Reilly grew up in a comfortable home in the suburbs of New York City. He attended private schools, and then went on to Yale University, where he studied history.

After graduating from Yale, Reilly attended Harvard Law School. He graduated from law school in 1964, and then worked as a law clerk for a federal judge. In 1966, he joined the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC),a public interest environmental law firm.

Reilly's Work at the NRDC

At the NRDC, Reilly worked on a variety of environmental issues, including air pollution, water pollution, and toxic waste. He quickly became one of the leading environmental lawyers in the country. In 1975, he was appointed by President Gerald Ford to be a member of the President's Council on Environmental Quality.

Reilly's work at the NRDC helped to raise awareness of the environmental problems facing the nation. He also helped to develop innovative legal strategies for protecting the environment. For example, he was one of the first lawyers to use the Endangered Species Act to protect endangered species.

Reilly's Appointment as EPA Administrator

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan appointed Reilly to be the first administrator of the EPA. Reilly was a controversial choice for the position. Some environmentalists were concerned that he was too close to industry, and that he would not be a strong advocate for environmental protection.

However, Reilly proved to be a strong and effective EPA administrator. He oversaw the implementation of some of the most important environmental laws in the nation's history, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Superfund law. He also worked to improve international cooperation on environmental issues, and helped to establish the Montreal Protocol, which phased out the use of ozone-depleting chemicals.

Reilly served as EPA administrator for eight years. During that time, he helped to make the EPA a more effective and respected agency. He also helped to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection.

Reilly's Work After the EPA

After leaving the EPA in 1989, Reilly continued to work on environmental issues. He served as president of the World Wildlife Fund and the Conservation Foundation, and was a member of the President's Council on Sustainable Development. He is currently a professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

Reilly's work has had a major impact on the environmental movement. He has helped to protect the environment and public health, and he has raised awareness of the importance of environmental protection. He is a true pioneer in the field of environmental advocacy.
